Humphrey Lyttelton on Jazz Instruments 5 of 6

Part 5 of 6: The Guitar

These recordings are taken from the BBC Radio 2 long running series
"the Best of Jazz" compiled & produced by Humph himself.

In this series, Humph breaks the Jazz band/Orchestra's instruments
down one by one, with style examples of each in recordings from
1928 up to the 2000's.

Examples:

1. Wes Montgomery, Cottontail (1961)
2. Buddy Guy, Worry worry
3. Lonnie Johnson-Eddie Lang, Two Tone Stomp
4. Django Reinhardt, Bouncing around
5. Freddie Green, Corner Pocket (Basie)
6. Teddy Bunn, (no title)
7. Charlie Christian, Solo Flight
8. Colin Oxley, I Guess I'll have to change My Mind (Stacey Kent Vcl)
9. John Schofield, What it is
10. Martin Taylor, Chilling with Oscar
11. Les Paul, The Blues (Jazz at the Phil)

Humphrey Lyttelton "Best of Jazz" 26th Feb 2007

Keeping it "Local"
Some well-known muso's on their own

All good things come to an end they say, and this is the LAST of the 2007 shows I have recordings for, so this familiar picture will be the last on here unless more shows are uncovered.

However, this is NOT the end of the road, as mentioned in a previous post, I have more shows from earlier years, some as far back as late 1990's but not almost complete sets as before.

This show starts off with examples from musicians in a band forming their own groups, keeping it local refers to Humphs band and the magic multi-sax player Karen Sharp.

Open up on Karen Sharp
Mantran's singer lives on a Blue moon
Quadrille from Japan
Dizzy Electrification of Tunisia
Gordon Beck 7 Steps
Jeff Darrohn on his own
Alex Welsh untitled fragments
Gee Baby... Oh Yeah
Taylor Mixes Freternity
